The learners entitlement or provisional Hgv licence is available to those 18 or over and held a car licence for a minimum 2 years .
You will need forms D2 and D4 from DVSA and pass a medical. Entitlement does allows you to train in both Hgv class 1 or class 2 but not required for off public road use such as an industrial yard.
There are pros and cons to learning both hgv class 1 or 2, many say that hgv class 1 is harder. Firstly you need to consider how and where these vehicles are used .
Hgv class 2 has a large tail swing to consider along with multiple drop delivery work often in narrow streets with badly parked vehicles . Manoeuvring can be often and tricky.
hgv class 1 haulage work usually stays on main roads and deliver to purpose built depots and bays. The class 1 has a pivot point making steering forwards easier than class 2 , learning to reverse a class 1 hgv can be mastered with some easy to learn technics and a little practice.

First of all you have transferable skills as a car driver, it’s just a case of learning some easy to learn reference points and technics and adding them to what you know. We start off your first day in the class 1 unit without a trailer in a quiet area until you feel comfortable.
